What is the rule of thirds?
A principle followed in photography, the rule of thirds is a composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open.
It leads to better composed images allowing for a holistic experience of the subject and environment.
We’d encourage you to think of your Masters’ Union application like a photograph that you are composing. Best interpreted as a creation that is more than the sum of the parts that are put into it.
Here’s an outline of how we look at your admissions application.
The First Third (Academic Aptitude)
The first lens that we examine applications from is the lens of academic aptitude and competency. In this section, first-off, we’re looking at your high school academic scores and your undergraduate scores and if they follow a linear trajectory of growth. Instances where grades dip can certainly be combated with context to explain the situation and spikes in other areas to make your low grade a smaller part of a bigger picture.
Secondly, we observe your projects, research and other academic undertakings that you might have undertaken. From repositories on GitHub to profiles on Behance, we love seeing your work showcased! We make an effort to dive deep into the achievements and accomplishments you’ve gotten!
Finally, the last component is your entrance examinations. From MUBAAT to CAT, GMAT and GRE, we’d like to see your academic aptitude showcased and benchmarked across our other applicants. All applicants are required to take the MUBAAT examination, which tests applicants across a diverse range of competencies. Additionally, applicants can choose to submit either the CAT, GMAT, GRE as supplemental scores in the application form. Masters’ Union will only consider the best score out of the examinations that you submit for evaluation.
The Second Third (Work Experience)
The second lens that we examine applications from is the lens of your prior work or internship experience. In this section, we’re looking at how you’ve utilized your time at the workplace and the kind of impact you’ve had at the organization. We understand that roles, sectors, functions and domains are different for different people, so we encourage that you provide us with as much context as you can!
Handling an INR 100 Cr. portfolio is certainly impressive, but in context, even leading a lean marketing team to create historic growth in a company is certainly laurel-worthy. We’d encourage you use the work experience section to showcase the context, content and catalyst you’ve been at your workplace.
The Final Third (Communication)
The final lens of evaluation that we use is to look through your communication skills. We consider this as vital to the Masters’ Union evaluation.
The essay section is now included within the MUBAAT examination. All applicants are mandatorily required to take the MUBAAT examination (conducted on the weekend after the admissions deadline). Within the MUBAAT examination, applicants will be able to find the ‘communication evaluation’.
Within the MUBAAT communication evaluation, applicants can expect both their written and verbal communication to be tested. With a multi-pronged approach to test communication, it allows us to see your critical thinking skills on full display. From how you’ve interpreted the prompt, to how you craft and organize arguments, to the structure you portray in your written and verbal communication are extremely important in your evaluation for Masters’ Union.
In the MUBAAT, we’ve asked questions that require text-based and video-based responses. Applicants can expect to write an on-the-spot essay, with a word limit of 300 words, within a timeframe of 20 minutes. Following the written component, applicants will get another 20 minutes to record a video-based response to two prompts, one behavioral and the other technical, with a timeframe of 10 minutes for each of the questions. Applicants will have a chance to digest the prompt and prepare, giving them an opportunity to record a 2 min video response in the 10 minutes timeframe that is provided.
So there you have our admissions criteria laid out for your consideration. After it’s comparison with a photograph, we’re certain that our attempts at analogizing the Masters’ Union admissions application won’t end. The application form is a snapshot of your life. We encourage you to make it the best photograph you’ve ever taken of yourself.
Our admissions deadline for Round 1 is fast approaching on the 10th of December, 2023! If you’re keen to be a part of our upcoming PGP TBM cohort, we encourage you to complete your application early!
