Moonshots aren’t easy to manufacture. From the literal Apollo missions to a figurative interpretation in the Masters’ Union application, we’d like to showcase some of our favorite essays we got in last year’s admissions cycle and tell you why they made the cut.
Note: These essay responses are curated from our previous admission cycles, where essay responses were collected in the application form. If you’re a new applicant for the PGP-TBM Cohort of 2025, the essay section has been moved to the MUBAAT examination (mandatory for every applicant), where they can expect both a written and video based communication evaluation.
Masters’ Union as a Dish
One of our favorite questions in our admissions cycle was asking our applicants to compare Masters’ Union to a dish and provide their interpretation. Watch current Masters’ Union student, Vaishali’s take and how she compares Masters’ Union to the kacche kele ki sabzi and what that showcases.
Apart from the delightful coverage and editing, we loved the creativity on display through this essay response. Comparing a new-age business school to the rawness of a vegetable, highlighting the transformation of students in Masters’ Union to the process of cooking and wrapping up her argument with a satisfactory review of the dish she has just prepared (outcomes of the experience).
Masters’ Union as a Platform
Last year, we asked our applicants to speak about themselves on video and highlight why Masters’ Union would be the perfect platform for them launching their career or entrepreneurial dreams. Watch our current Masters’ Union student, Salil talk about his life story, his passion of dirt biking and how it cumulates into answering the essay question.
We love authenticity and it is on full display here. From opening up about his life story in an honest manner to showcasing his passion of dirt biking, we feel this video encapsulates Salil’s profile extremely well and showcases an earnest request to be a part of Masters’ Union’s upcoming cohort. Not to mention, the flow and structure are well designed!
Special Mentions
The Shankhanila Daily
Current Masters’ Union student Shankhanila designed her resume in the style of a Hogwarts newspaper and had many references and subtle nods to the world of Harry Potter. Taking a leap of faith with her creativity and her storytelling skills is something we really appreciated in her application - a definite plus point for her admission to Masters’ Union!
Redefining Resumes
Current Masters’ Union student and awesome UI/UX designer Arjun decided to submit his CV as a power point presentation as well. From covering his skills, knowledge of tools to the clients he had worked with, we got a deep insight into Arjun as a person through his well designed power point presentation. Going the extra mile is something that will be rewarded in the Masters’ Union application!
Scatterplots Supreme
Along with his application, current Masters’ Union student Anirudh decided to submit his tableau portfolio as well. While many focus on CVs and resumes in applications, at Masters’ Union, we equally value proof of work. Unsubstantiated claims of being a ‘detail-oriented’ person are quelled when backed with portfolios of work that showcases what you’ve done with the analytical ability you’ve acquired. Backing up your claims through proofs of work will always hold you in good stead when applying for the Masters’ Union PGP TBM!
There you have it! A small slice of the wonderful display of creativity, passion and effort by the applicants (and eventual students) for our previous cohort. With the Round 1 deadline for our upcoming cohort, 10th December, 2023, just around the corner, we hope you’ve started and are well on your way to completing your application.
We hope to see you break the boundaries of creativity and innovation with your work.
